FUNDRAISER THANKS!

A big thank you to all who attended/contributed towards the Lasagna, BINGO and movie fundraiser - it was a huge success and nearly $1000 was raised.  Thanks again and we look forward to running this event next year!

BLACKFLY - MAY 12-13

THE BLACKFLY IS HERE!!  REGISTER ONLINE BY MAY 1, 2012.  THIS MEET IS OPEN TO ALL** CANDU SWIMMERS (ICS, FITNESS AND COMPETITIVE).
**Must be able to swim 25 metres of the pool

COME JOIN US ON MAY 12^th AND 13^th!

The annual Blackfly Meet is a chance for novice and experienced swimmers to enjoy some friendly competition before the end of the annual swim season.  Swimmers have an opportunity to measure their annual progress in a comfortable, fun and energizing atmosphere.  The swim meet is designed for all ages and the Deep River Candu Swimmers can challenge a range of athletes from beginners to national level.

MORE THAN JUST A MEET!
This two day meet provides not only an opportunity for performance but also a chance for some final team building for the 2011-2012 swim season.  With a brand new venue and a task force of former Candu swimmers assigned just for this event we`re hoping to make this meet and BBQ the most memorable yet!  End the year on the right wave, giving a reason why a swimmer must return or ignite their competitive nature for the 2012-2013 swim season.

Please read the entire meet package for all event info.  This is a sanctioned meet for all participants and fitness and pre-competitive swimmers have their annual opportunity to register their times on the Swim Canada database.  Information on the venue, accommodation options and fun events between sessions are outlined.  We hope you consider attending our meet and help make this one the most successful yet J

A FEW NOTES ABOUT REGISTERING:

• 3rd+ Family CANDU participant is $0 (this promotion does not apply to visitng clubs)
• Each Registered Swimmer includes one BBQ ticket
• Additional BBQ tickets can be purchased online when registering for the event
• No BBQ tickets will be sold at the event (advanced tickets only)
• Swimmers or coaches can choose the races - if you want the coach to choose the races simply type 'Coach' when the screen prompts you to do so
• Paying by cash or cheque? At the day of the event, the canteen can complete your money transaction and provide a receipt but the registration must be made ONLINE.

REMAINING COMPETITIVE MEETS:

The available informatin for the remaining meets is posted.

• The LC Capital Qualifier on May 6 requires immediate action since the deadline is this coming Sunday (unexpected) which makes things a little difficult when choosing events especially when the Divs III competition hasn't occurred yet.  Che will relay event choices to me by Sunday afternoon (based on Saturday and Sunday's performance) but please take the time to register and request the number of events prior to leaving for Divs.  If you're too tight for time to log-on to Thriva simply email us and we'll manually do it for you.  Please indicate to us whether you want to split a room at the Minto.  As of now, Mitch can accommodate an additional family (May 5 to May 6) so it's available first-come, first serve.
• Blackfly entries are due May 1.
• Montreal P1/P2s - Accommodations are TBA.  Entry deadline is evening of May 6 after the weekend's meet.
• LC EOSA - There is no published meet package but a bedroom from a two bedroom suite will be available - first come, first serve basis again for the Friday and Saturday evening.

LASAGNA DINNER, BINGO AND A MOVIE - SAT APRIL 28 @ the CEC!

Come join the 'Candu Family' for an evening of delicious food and fun!  The club is hosting a LASAGNA DINNER, BINGO AND A MOVIE FUN NIGHT in effort to fundraise for a major equipment overhaul to coincide with the Town's facility upgrades.  Join us at 5pm at the CEC in Deep River on Saturday, April 28, 2012 where a lasagna dinner will be served (vegetarian and allergy sensitive options available) followed by BINGO and a movie.  Win fun, non-cash prizes suited for the whole family and bring your sleeping bag for a drive-in family friendly movie experience!  Parents are responsible for children and all children under 16 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.  Tickets are $15 for the first family member and $10 for each additional family member.  Buy your tickets at the Deep River Tim Hortons on Saturday, April 21 from 1:00-4:00pm and Wednesday, April 25 from 3:30-6:30pm.  Tickets are also available to purchase at the pool on Tuesday, April 24 and Thursday April 26 from 5-6pm.  Email the club's general account, deeprivercandus@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Need Accommodations in Ottawa for Swim Meets? (or other family events)

The Candus have partnered with Minto Properties to receive preferred rates at the Minto Suites Hotel when staying in Ottawa for swim meets and other events (all Candu families are welcome to use this until Decemeber 31, 2012).  This definitely helps when the competitive team is travelling during peak tourist times in the Nation's Capital when room rates across the city are temporarily elevated - often times regional meets are held during Winterlude and the annual Tulip Festival!

Call the reservation line 1-800-267-3377 and ask for the 'Deep River Candu Swim Club' rate.  The rate is the following: One bedroom suite with efficiency kitchen $169/night; One bedroom suite with full kitchen $179/night; two bedroom suite with full kitchen $199/night.  Before doing this, check the website http://www.minto.com/find-a-hotel-in-ottawa/projects.html to see if the 'Best Available Rate' for online bookings is lower (sometimes during low travel times it is!).

Travelling with the team?  Inquire around to share a two bedroom suite with another family - there's more than enough room to host you all comfortably!

NO PRACTICES OVER EASTER!

As stated under the reminders, there will be NO Candu programming (including Masters) over the Easter weekend.  Friday Masters, Saturday am ICSF&F/Fitness/Competitive practice, and Monday pm Masters and Fitness/Competitive practice are cancelled.

SUNDAES ON A SUNDAY - APRIL 15/2012

Sundaes on a Sunday is fast approaching - April 15, 2012!  As said before, this meet is intended for any swimmer than can swim at least one length of the pool.  There will be a variety of age groups attending and this meet will also be great practice in preparation for the sanctioned Blackfly Meet where all swimmers' times are formally recorded with SNC (Swim Natation Canada).  The cost is $20 for each participant (the 3rd+ swimmer in the family swims for free) and all relevant information is on the information sheet.  See the March 25, 2012 blog entry for complete details: http://deeprivercandus.blogspot.ca/2012/03/local-meets-official-meet-packages.html   Registration for this event is online (see instructions below).  Last year we almost had all ICS and fitness swimmers participate so we would love to see such a positive turn out again.  We will also be having some visiting clubs including Petawawa, Arnprior and ROCS from Ottawa.  PLEASE REGISTER BY THURSDAY APRIL 5, 10pm.

Please note, ALL REGISTRATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED ONLINE.  For payment, you can either pay online when you register by credit card or pay by cheque or cash at the event and a transaction receipt will be given to you to say we collected the money.
